Artist Statement

Since 2005, I became very interested in a wide variety of art. Since I was young I loved art, from using crayons to pencils. Now that I am older, I feel more interested in painting and more advanced media.

The one theme that seems to appear in all my works is the idea of imagination and realism combined. For example, my work "Music Note" shows realistic earphones, but with a rainbow coming out of each end which is imaginative. Also with "Fly", it shows two hands attempting a shape of wings which is also very creative. I love to paint mainly because you are free to express whatever you like - realistic or imaginative. Of course, painting isn't all I do. I also love to sketch to roughly express my idea first, then add more detail and precision to my paintings.

From my works, I am trying to attempt to communicate my thoughts about certain things. My most recent work, "Kang Dong Won" is a painting of an important scene in a movie where he tells her he loves her. This brings back memories, watching this with my mother, and I enjoyed this movie very much so this painting is quite personal. I was challenged to explore chiroscuro in this painting, and this was something I have never tried before, so it was quite interesting to work on.
